It is no secret that our daughter has been one of the most incredible blessings of our lives. She and her twin brothers are the focus and joy of our lives, and every so often, something happens that just stops us in our tracks and gives us tremendous pause along our parental journey.
One of those moments occurred on the final day of school in early summer, when Wendy (and Abby) received an unexpected gift from one of Abby's teachers, who also happens to be an incredibly talented illustrator--Beth Anne Maresca (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beth-Anne-Maresca-Illustrations/136337706391034).
The photo of her illustration (below) is titled, "Awesome Abby."
The Backstory: One afternoon, our daughter Abigail commandeered her teacher's reading chair without asking. Naturally, her teacher asked directly, "will you be reading the story this afternoon?" Abby's retort, "yes!" after which she procured, The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, took the reading chair, and read the entire book to her classmates without misstep. At the end of the reading, her classmates spontaneously rose and began clapping loudly, several of them proclaiming, "Abby, that was awesome!!!" The moment was recounted to us by her teachers, who said it was one of the most precious moments in their teaching careers. Using her amazing talent, Ms. Maresca cemented that moment in history for all of us via the illustration below, which has been framed and now resides proudly in our living room for all to enjoy. :)
